It’s always important to dress for success. I have always found that the best outfit for a job interview is a suit, or a modified version of a suit. A modified version for men would be dress pants, dress shirt and a tie. A modified version for women would be a conservative dress that could be worn in an office environment. Be sure all clothing, including shoes, are clean and pressed.
Prepare for the job interview by doing research on the company you are applying to. Check the Internet for a website and review the company’s history, mission statement and goals for the future. If you are unable to find a company website, look it up on Dun and Bradstreet or find an online business magazine that will give you some insight into the company.
Be sure to get the name of the person who will be interviewing you. Nothing is sweeter to a person’s ear than the sound of his or her own name. Also, be sure you know how to pronounce it correctly. If you aren’t sure on the pronunciation, call the secretary. Always use the same naming that the office staff or the person him/herself uses; such as Rob, Robert, Susan or Mr. Jones.
Be enthusiastic! You want this job so show enthusiasm about working there! Employers want team players who are enthusiastic about working for them.
Prepare examples of your work. For example, if you are a web designer, come with samples of your web designs.
Once you are at the actual interview, make sure you establish and maintain eye contact, use a firm handshake, plenty of smiling and stand when being introduced, or when someone enters the room.
Always bring an extra copy of your resume. The interviewer may ask for one as a test to see if you are fully prepared for the interview.
